Liberation Through Limitation

2O21

A performative study into the power of self-imposed rules within fashion. Across one month, the artist wore a single set of four garments (outerlayer, underlayer, trousers, and shoes) and documented his emotional response to this liberatory project.

Designed to overcome the continual flux and consumer overload of the fashion industry, the performance examines the relief of self-containing personal expression, ultimately connecting with one’s fundamental aesthetic identity and self-image. Through embracing this point of control, the artist embraces the juxtaposition between freedom and restriction and synthesises a critical form of personal style.
